SYW - Battle of Winter Quarters - Part 2

Sorry it has been so long since I posted. Life, work, etc.

See Part 1 here: http://dinofbattle.blogspot.com/2015/03/syw-battle-for-winter-quarters-part-1.html

After part one we saw the Hessian-Hanoverian army driving the French further and further back especially on the flank where the Hanoverians were attacking.

The Swiss (French) desperately trying to hold off the on-coming Hanoverian Horse, but are flanked by the Hanoverian infantry!

Flank fire routs the Swiss

Hanoverian Heavy Horse ride down the battery, while the French cavalry reserve forms to hold the line.

Two light batteries wheel into position to hit the French battle line.

On the French left flank, the Prussian heavy guns are disordered by flanking fire from the village.

Brian sends his French Dragoon cavalry brigade (3 regiments of dragoons) to secure his left flank as several Prussian cavalry units attempt to sneak around their flank.

Back on the French right flank, the Swiss can be seen routing at the bottom of this photo, while the Hanoverian Horse hits the French in echelon.

Back on the left, the Hessian commander refuses to use a maneuver card to wheel his Prussian dragoons to meet the French Dragoons. This will cost them the game.

The French Dragoons slip around the French infantry putting them within striking distance of the

on the French left the Berry Cuirassier hit the Hanoverian horse, with 2 more regiments in reserve.

A firefight breaks out in the center between fresh French infantry and Hanoverian infantry.

Looking down the line.

Hessian infantry finally advance into the frey! Will they be able to crack the French center?

French heavies smash into the Hanoverian horse routing them.

Carnage everywhere! (Black casualty markers represent stand losses)

The French hit the arrogant Prussians in column of route and destroy them! Lots of morale chips lost.

Swiss infantry attempting to rally.

Rallied!

More Prussian cavalry is hit on the flank and routed.

Blow, the Prussian Hussars (newly painted) drive off and rout the French Dragoons!

Run away! Even though one French Dragoon regiment was driven away the French flank is secure and more importantly the multiple melees on this flank drained the Hessian\Hanoverian morale chips to almost nothing.

More thick musket fire between the Hanoverians and French. French getting the better of this one.

The Hessians fire, but this is too little too late. The Hessian-Hanoverian army is out of morale chips and must retire from the field.

So what turned out to be a French victory was nearly a crippling defeat halfway through the game.

I love playing Piquet!!!

  1. Love the terrain and the figures. One of these days I have to get in a game GM'd by you. What is the ground cover made of for the snow effect?

  2. Thanks Victor! I'll save you a spot the next time I run some games at Historicon!

The ground cover is white felt. :-) I then splotch it up with some black, brown, and green spray paint.

    That is it.

  5. Super AAR. I'm going to have to look at getting myself a 'snow field'. They do make things look cold.
