Archon 2nd Ed. Game - Greeks vs Persians

Here is some photos a game we played while I developed Archon 2nd edition. These are my Greek and Persian armies.

Greeks are from Chariot miniatures and have shield decals from VVV.

Persians are all Essex at the time of this game.

I really love the look of a massive phalanx smashing into the Persians

Eventually I will get around to flocking the bases, but I'm more interested in gaming than painting or flocking at this point in time.

FFL Din of Battle 2nd Ed. Playtest - Squad Game

Hi, some of you are aware that I'm writing the 2nd edition of Din o Battle, which is the colonial supplement for Piquet.

As part of the process I have decided to make a SQUAD scale game where each unit is roughly a squad in size. As you can see from the FFL squads are 2 stands with 3 figures per stand, while my Arabs are mounted 5 to a stand. I like the look, but players can have 3 to 5 figures per base for native units as it doesn't change game-play, but just the look.

This scenario is a straight ambush scenario with the Legion in march column being attacked on both flanks. Legion started the game with cavalry scouts out in front. The FFL ended up trying to use the ruins for cover, but were eventually overrun. Bad day for the legion. I have another set of photos I will post sometime soon, of a much large battle.

Death in the Desert Game Photos

Here are some ramdom photos from a Death in the Desert game (FFL vs Arabs) we played a couple years ago. I have a lot of the Cresent Root buildings and some scratch built buildings. this is all 15mm figures and terrain.

You can find the DiD rules on my website:

Making a WWI Trench System

Well, I'm sure I want to document how SLOW I have been at finishing this terrain. I wrote, BARRAGE, which is the Piquet supplement for Early 20th Centurey warfare. I wanted soom realistic terrain to fight my battles on. I embarassed to say that I started making these trenches in 2003!!!

I really love how they have turned out and hope to use them again in the near future.

I decided to make 4 x (2' x 4') boards to make a 4' x 8' trench system. This would include the first line trench of the attackers, no mans land, then the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line trenches of the defender's trench systems.

Materials

Two inch thick 4x8 Pink Board (Insulation) - Cut into 4x2 sections
Brown Paint (mud)
Black Paint (sides and bottom of boards)
Clay (Make lips of crators)
White glue & plain white paper (Seal tops of boards)
Polyurethane (bottom and sides)
Polycrylic (top)
Spray sealer for tops and sides (American Accents Clear Top coat - Matte Finish - by Rust-oleum)
V-Grove 2050\2060 by Evergreen Scale Models (Duck Board)
FIMO Clay to make sand bags to line the trenches. (eight small packs)

I cut pieces of paper (8 x 11) into four pieces. I then dipped them into white glue and covered the boards with them. You get the idea on this shot.

Next I painted the boards in brown and then glazed it with the polyurethan.

Here are a couple of photos of the the unfinished trenches. I hope to have sandbags on the trench lips when the boards are complete.

I have started working on the bunkers\dugouts.
